The perfect location for filming and photo shoots
Portmeirion is a colourful Italianate Village designed by the architect Sir Clough Williams-Ellis, who took 50 years to build it starting in 1926.
It has unusual architecture, bright Mediterranean colours and spectacular natural scenery, consisting of a 70-acre woodland and a large sandy beach. Its location on the Dwyryd river estuary makes it an ideal setting for any project which requires a colourful backdrop with immense natural beauty.
It has been used on numerous occasions for a TV and film location, for example – KIPPS (1941), DANGER MAN (1959), THE GREEN HELMET (1961), DOCTOR WHO (1976), CITIZEN SMITH (1980), BRIDESHEAD REVISITED (1981), TREASURE HUNT (1984), THE TRIPODS (1985), TOP GEAR (1987), THE LAUGHING PRISONER (1987), UNDER SUSPICION (1992) and COLD FEET (2003) to name but a few.
The most famous television programme filmed here is THE PRISONER, filmed on location at Portmeirion in 1966 and 1967. The Six-of-One Prisoner Appreciation Society holds an annual Prisoner Convention at Portmeirion.
With its pastel colours and iconic architecture, Portmeirion has been used for photo-shoots since it’s opening in 1926. Not only are the colours reminiscent of a warmer Mediterranean climate, many companies have used the Drwyryd Estuary, swimming pool, woods and gardens.
Portmeirion is an ideal location for a wide range of photo-shoots, inside and out, with private green room facilities available in the Tudor Room in the village centre. Accommodation can be provided as well as the use of Location guide and transport.
