Our No dog policy
We are often asked about the reason for Portmeirion & Castell Deudraeth's no-dogs/pets-allowed policy. In our FAQ's we explain -
One reason for the rule is the conflict pets (particularly dogs) produce in natural areas used as wildlife habitat and also used by people for recreation. Portmeirion's natural areas are managed in a way that protects habitat for a wide variety of wildlife species. Dogs, by nature, can damage sensitive habitats as well as harass or kill vulnerable wildlife. The no-dogs policy is also applied to protect the many people who may be picnicking, walking, swimming or relaxing in the grounds.
We do however understand that families holiday with their four legged friends and would like to visit us.
If you would like to visit Portmeirion, and are holidaying with your dog, a local business offers doggy day care and is around 15 minutes drive from us. Please see Tyn y Dref's website for more details etc.
Visiting with a Guide and Assistance Dog/Animal.
We kindly ask if you are visiting Portmeirion with an assistance | guide dog/animal, that your dog/animal wears a working coat, collar or lead, or you carry a method of ID which will help identify them to our staff.
Our staff have received training and are aware of behavioural traits that should be displayed by an assistance dog/pet as outlined by all guidelines in line with the equality and human rights act.
We do reserve the right of refusal if we believe the animal is not an assistance | guide dog/animal.
We kindly ask that whilst you are within the grounds, your Guide | Assistance dog, is kept on a short leash, and under control. Please remember that not everyone loves dogs, and some people fear them.
