Relaxing, Refreshing Autumn Breaks at Portmeirion
"Snowdonia’s most colourful autumn foliage."
Autumn is one of the most delightful times to enjoy a holiday in Wales, when the woodlands put on a dazzling display and the mild temperatures provide a wonderful opportunity for walking. To admire the burnished hues of autumn, there is nowhere more spectacular than Portmeirion’s 70-acre Gwyllt woodland gardens, probably Snowdonia’s most colourful autumn foliage.
In an incomparable setting on its own secret peninsula, Portmeirion is a Grade-II listed architectural fantasy. This unashamedly romantic seaside resort is at its best in autumn, when the hanging woods above the village are draped in red and gold and the Champion trees in the woods have taken on their autumn colours. After a brisk walk in the woods or along the coastal path, put your feet up in the ornate Victorian lounges of the Hotel for a restorative glass of Champagne and a fulsome Welsh afternoon tea.
Portmeirion’s rooms and suites are located around the village, many with fine views of the spectacular tidal estuary and the mountains beyond. There are also rooms in the Hotel main building and in Castell Deudraeth close by. Castell Deudraeth’s slate-floored and oak panelled bar and restaurant showcase some of the best local seasonal produce, prepared with flair. The Hotel Portmeirion’s art deco dining room designed by Sir Terrence Conran offers an autumn table d’hôte menu featuring Coed y Brenin venison, wild mushrooms, local seafood and the finest Welsh lamb.
The Portmeirion Autumn Gold break includes a two-course dinner on the first night at The Hotel Portmeirion or Castell Deudraeth. Due to social distancing regulations dinner reservations are required in advance. The Autumn Gold break includes full breakfast both mornings (again, bookings need to be made in advance to ensure social distancing regulations) and a Welsh afternoon tea with a glass of Champagne on the afternoon of the second day (served from 1pm to 4pm in the Hotel lounges). Due to social distancing regulations, a time for afternoon tea must also to be arranged in advance.
The Portmeirion Autumn Gold break is valid from 1st - 30th November (subject to availability) and includes a two-course dinner on the first night at The Hotel Portmeirion or Castell Deudraeth, full breakfast both mornings and a Welsh afternoon tea with a glass of Champagne on the afternoon of the second day.
